D.G. Yuengling & Son is America's oldest operating brewery, founded in 1829 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania by David Gottlob Yuengling, a German immigrant. Having survived Prohibition by producing ice cream and near-beer, Yuengling has been continuously family-owned for six generations. Their Traditional Lager — an amber-colored, medium-bodied lager with a rich, slightly sweet malt character — is one of the best-selling craft beers in the eastern United States and is fiercely beloved throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the mid-Atlantic. In Pennsylvania, ordering 'a lager' at a bar almost universally means Yuengling.
